Sayulita is a small, lush fishing village about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in the state of Nayarit, with a population of about 3000 people.

There are two great websites with lots of detailed information about the town:

Transportation:

You should fly into the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, to get to Sayulita.   Once you arrive in PV, you have a couple of options for transportation to Sayulita.

LIMO/SHUTTLE RENTAL:  VIP Shuttle Service will pick you up from the PV airport, take you to Sayulita, and return you to the airport at the end of your trip for $120 round trip.

We have used this service and found VIP to be very reliable. Please mention that you are with the Blanchard/Hageman party when making your reservations. Plus, they will have a cooler full of ice cold beer waiting for the drive.

If you are staying at Villa Amor, you can arrange transportation when you book your hotel room. They have a shuttle which seats six.

TAXI: Taxis from the PV airport to Sayulita generally run around $550 pesos at the airport gate or $300 pesos if you walk across the pedestrian bridge to the other side of the highway.

CAR RENTAL: You will not need a car while you are in Sayulita.  The town is very small and everything is in walking distance, especially if you stay near the town center.

If you want a car to drive around the surrounding area or back and forth between PV,  car rentals for Sayulita are available at the Puerto Vallarta airport as well as in Bucerias.

Prices start around $45 USD per day for a Volkswagen Beetle (convertible) to $80 USD for a Suburban.  Amigo Rent a Car : 011-52-329-298-1871--Gecko Car Rental : 011-52-329-298-0339

Accommodations:

There are a wide range of homes, condos, and villas available for rental from the Sayulita Life website. Many of the villas have private pools, full kitchens, great ocean views, and other amenities.

Map of some Sayulita rental properties. Villa Amor (the wedding) is next to property 13 on the south end of town.

Current List:

For a hotel, we recommend Casablanca. Wedding guests staying there: The Hagemans, The Blanchards, Skye, Christian, Danielle, Tim, Lara, Kate, Emily, John, and Gus.

If you have not made hotel or villa accomodations, please let us know if we can assist. If you have made accomodations, but don't see your name above, please let us know where you will be staying along with arrival and departure dates and times so we can coordinate plans.

Amenities:

There are food markets, restaurants, pharmacies and all kinds of beach shops in the town. There is a "casa de cambio" for cashing travelers cheques, but there is *NO ATM*, so be sure to bring travelers cheques, dollars, or pesos with you to town.  Many of the smaller businesses do not take credit cards, but most of the larger restaurants do.

Weather:

The weather during the end of April is warm and somewhat humid with highs in the upper 80's to low 90's.  The evenings can be cool with a nice ocean breeze, so be sure to pack a light sweater.

Time Zone:

Sayulita sits on the Mountain (1 hour ahead of San Francisco) side of the Mountain/Central time zone border. Puerto Vallarta is on the Central side (2 hours ahead of San Francisco).

Flying from SFO, you lose two hours when you fly to PV and gain one hour back when you drive to Sayulita. This is particularly important when you are planning your flight home since you will need to leave for the airport an hour earlier (MST) than you would expect to make your flight which will depart on CST.

Food and Drink:

Don Pedros: Upscale restaurant on the beach. Good seafood. Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Si Hay Olitas: Casual Mexican restaurant just off the square
Choco Banana: On the square, best spot for breakfast
Sayulita Café: Nice, upscale restaurant
La Estrella: On the beach, cheap, great Mexican food, HUGE daquiris/margaritas
Sayulita Fish Taco: On the east side of the square. Great spot to get takeout.

Fish: There is a great fishmonger. It is right at the bridge on the south side of town. On your left as you walk from the bridge to the square. Fresh whole fish, shrimp, etc. There is a butcher kitty corner if you want steaks or chicken and a little grocer (with good produce) right next door.

Groceries: The best grocery store is on the corner in the square across from the ice cream place. Fresh produce and all the essentials.

Fresh tortillas: The tortilla factory is on the east side of the square or the grocery store I mentioned has them in a cooler by the counter. Amazing with some grilled shrimp and peppers.
